Role Summary
* In this role, you will support the research and development of advanced electro-optical systems used in space domain awareness. You will develop, model, and optimize complex control algorithms for dynamic systems and contribute to system hardware, firmware, and software integration. This role is part of a multidisciplinary team supporting innovative optical and electronic technologies at a high-security research facility. Education & Job Requirements
* Must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry from an accredited course of study.
* Must have a minimum of 5 years or more of experience in an engineering classification OR a Master’s degree with typically a minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering classification OR a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry. ABET is preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
* Must have a minimum of 4 years of professional experience designing, modeling, and implementing advanced control algorithms for dynamic systems.
* Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience using MATLAB and Simulink, including relevant control and optimization toolboxes.
* Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience using C/C++ or Python for algorithm implementation or data analysis. Preferred Skills
* You will have a Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline or a minimum of 9 years of related experience.
* You will have experience with advanced control methods such as Model Predictive Control (MPC), LQR, adaptive control, or robust control.
* You will have a deep theoretical understanding of modern control theory, stability analysis, and state-space methods.
* You will have a strong foundation in mathematics, linear algebra, and optimization theory.
* You will have experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing.
* You will have familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded systems, and telescope control applications.
* You will have strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Job Duties / Functions
* You will be developing mathematical models of dynamic mechanical, electrical, and thermal systems.
* You will be designing and implementing control strategies, including classical, optimal, and robust control methods.
* You will be simulating and validating control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink and related tools.
* You will be developing and executing Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-Loop tests for algorithm validation.
* You will be tuning and optimizing system parameters to meet performance targets such as stability, accuracy, and responsiveness.
* You will be analyzing real-world data to refine and improve control system performance.
* You will be collaborating with software and firmware teams to integrate algorithms into embedded systems.
* You will be supporting integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems.
* You will be preparing technical documentation, including control design specifications, reports, and validation plans.
