An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence UK as a Software Engineer (Experienced or Senior Level) to support software development programmes.
The team: The Software Engineering and Systems Integration team in the UK is actively working across Boeing Defence, Commercial Airplanes, Global services and Uncrewed technologies.
The Software Engineering team works in the development of Synthetic Environment Sub-systems, Mission Systems Capability, Autonomous Behaviours, enhancement of Ground Control Systems, Technical Publications and various in-house proprietary tools for the Defence platforms. The team is also contributing to Commercial Modification of aircrafts, development of Onboard Network Systems, Cabin Interiors and supporting Supplemental Type Certification effort.
About the role
We are seeking a Software Engineer (Experienced or Senior Level) based in Bristol or Fleet to support Defence and Security domains at Boeing locations and Customer sites across the UK, including Autonomous Systems, Training and Simulation, Cyber, Space, Intelligence and Security.
As a consequence of our growing business we have a number of exciting career opportunities within our Software Engineering Capability, which is responsible for the Research and Development of Advanced Technology and the Design, Development and Certification of our Software systems and sub-systems.

Hiring details:
This requisition is for a locally hired position in Bristol or Fleet, UK. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
This position is expected to be hybrid with 3 days working from office. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
Candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain SC level clearance.
Level of role offered will be dependent on level of experience.
Position Responsibilities
Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining non-embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle that meets industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards for Defence programmes
Reviewing, analyzing, and translating customer requirements into initial design of software products
Developing, documenting and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products
Debugging and resolving issues identified to ensure the reliability and efficiency of software products
Handling user inquiries, troubleshooting technical issues and user feedback analysis
Implementing current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development
Developing, establishing, monitoring and improving software processes, tools and key performance metrics that align projects with organizational goals and industry benchspans
Performing software project management activities and software supplier management functions
Providing feedback to junior developers through code reviews and helping guide them in best practices with well documented code and development processes.
Working collaboratively with other engineers, specialists and cross functional teams to achieve a sustainable outcome
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
Ability to obtain security clearance
Open to occasional travel
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Level 3 (Experienced):
5+ years of experience working as a Software Developer or a similar role
5+ years of Experience across Software Development Lifecycle and Software standards such as ISO9001.
Experience in developing and applying continuous improvement to process and productivity for Software
Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, C, .Net, XAML).
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and software design principles.
Understanding of Microsoft WPF and MVVM design patterns.
Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and API integrations.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Experience with front-end frameworks.
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
Familiarity with DevOps, Automation and CICD concepts.
Understanding of testing frameworks and unit testing practices.
Level 4 (Senior Software Engineer)
10+ years of experience working as a Software Developer or a similar role
10+ years of Experience across Software Development Lifecycle and Software standards such as ISO9001.
8-10 years of experience in developing and applying continuous improvement to process and productivity for Software
Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to develop, communicate and inspire staff.
Knowledge of customer behaviours, needs and expectations.
Ability to lead a team/discipline to quickly resolve complex problems
Ability to build and maintain broad network of business relationships
Good understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to drive digital business support.
