ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Sweet Aviation operates services out of multiple airports in Northeast Indiana including Part 61 & Part 141 flight training, Part 145 aircraft maintenance & avionics services, FBO facilities and Part 135 charter flights. Sweet Aviation has been in business since 2011 and continues to expand its presence in existing and new market segments.

OVERVIEW OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The Director of Operations will emulate the Sweet Aviation core values of Honor, Humility, Helpfulness, Happiness (positive mindset), and Hunger to improve and grow in the role. This role will be responsible for maintaining FAA and Sweet Aviation documentation, demonstrating a high attention to detail, and the ability to adapt and grow at a rapid pace day to day.

Sweet Aviation operates a growing and dynamic Part 135 charter operation serving clients primarily throughout the Fort Wayne & Midwest region, with an expanding footprint of on-demand and regional travel. Our current charter fleet includes Cessna Citation jets, Pilatus PC-12 turboprops, and a Cirrus SR22, enabling us to provide a wide range of mission profiles, from executive jet service to regional business and personal travel.

The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in managing flight operations at scale, balancing regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and exceptional customer service. They should be skilled in leading teams across multiple aircraft types, comfortable working within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment, and capable of driving operational excellence as the company continues to expand its footprint in the Fort Wayne-Midwest charter market.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all company flight operations are conducted safely and aircraft are operated in compliance with the manufacturers Approved Flight Manual, Federal Aviation Regulations, the GOM and associated 135 documents, and the regulations of other agencies with jurisdiction over flight operations.
  • Supervises the Chief Pilot and other employees as directed by the General Manager
  • Revises and submits to the FAA: Company Operations and Training manuals, Operations Specifications, checklists, Minimum Equipment Lists and other pertinent documents, publications and manuals as necessary.
  • Communicates with the Department of Transportation, TSA, HSIN and the National Transportation Safety Board and files all required reports and documents.
  • Signs FAA correspondence and Operations Specifications.
  • Authority to establish and revise the policies and procedures.
  • Hires, mentors and fires personnel
  • Participates in merit review and compensation of employees
  • Full and complete authority to initiate, change, or suspend operations of an aircraft
  • Manages key personnel related to flight operations
  • Schedules aircraft flights, maintenance, and inspections in concert with the appropriate management personnel
  • Reports accidents and incidents per Sweet Aviation procedures
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Clean Record - Safety and Compliance
  • Qualify for FAA 135 Director of Operations per FAR 119.71
  • Prior/Current FAA Part 119/135 Management Experience
  • 135 passenger charter experience
  • First class medical certificate
  • AMEL ATP | 3,000 hours TT | 1,000 hours turbine
  • Strong team player
  • Excellent communicator
  • Proactive relationship builder

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience in Pilatus PC-12 and Citation Models
  • Flight instructor
